Only a short drive from Dubrovnik (circa 30-40 min) on a spectacular seaside road there is Konavle, a hidden gem and natural beauty, compared to Chianti by many, where wines have been made for centuries!
Malvasija white wine is the king of whites and Plavac Mali of red but also some 30 other grape varieties makes unique wines. Todays tour will involve a guided tasting of 4 wines, introduction to the history of wine making, matching wine with food and lots more! The first stop is a visit to Sokol Grad. Sokol Grad is a large defensive medieval castle. It’s located in the hills above the village of Dunave, close to the Croatian-Bosnian border and commands truly spectacular views!
This imposing tower was open to visitors in 2013 after extensive restoration works. During the restoration, many historical artefacts were found onsite, some of them dating back to late Copper and early Bronze times.
The tower came under the rule of Dubrovnik Republic in early 14th century, and in this period it was built to today’s size.
Please note that for walking up to the top of the castle you need sporty shoes and to be in a fit condition for walking.
After that, we will go to a local agro tourism farm for a wine tasting and lunch. All products served there are made by the farm.
A three course traditional lunch is to follow, fish or vegetarian options are available too, and wine alongside lunch made by the farm, white and red!
All above as described, 3 course delicious lunch with wine plus transport from/to your hotel or nearest point.
