Whispering Waters North British 35-Year Single Grain Scotch Whisky hails from the historic North British Distillery in Edinburgh, a cornerstone of Scotland's whisky legacy since 1885. This exceptional release breaks from the distillery’s tradition of supplying grain whisky for blends, instead showcasing the artistry possible in a single grain expression left to mature for over three decades. Distilled in 1989 and drawn from an ex-bourbon hogshead, only 276 bottles were produced, each offering a rare glimpse into the elegance of time-honed grain whisky.

The whisky opens with a vibrant nose of summer blossoms, green apple, and a soft grassy note, promising a fresh yet delicate profile. On the palate, layers of pineapple upside-down cake and lemon sorbet lead the way, followed by warming hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish is a delightful surprise, evoking popping candy sensations with lingering tropical fruit juice and lemon sherbet. This complexity is a direct result of slow oxygenation during maturation, an effect amplified by the angel’s share over 35 years.

Bottled at 46% ABV, this small batch, single cask whisky is non-chill filtered and free of added color, offering a pure and unaltered expression. Best enjoyed neat to appreciate its intricate balance, Whispering Waters is a celebration of grain whisky’s often-overlooked potential. It’s not just a dram—it’s a rare, luxurious experience of Edinburgh’s quiet whisky excellence.
